Haut-Médoc is located in South of the Médoc appellation.
The appellation covers 4 400 ha planted of only red variety grapes: Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot usually blend with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. About 240 000 hl of red wines are produced each year.
Younger these wines have a strong tannic structure and some wines cannot be tasted for several years. Then, they get complex aromatic bouquets of red fruits and they offer a supple and fleshy development.
The terroir mix alluvial gravel favourable for Cabernet growing and clay-limestone soils favourable for Merlot.
