Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation is situated in the Libournais area, on the right bank of the Dordogne.
The appellation covers the same area as Saint-Emilion but to be qualify "Grand Cru" the estates must respect conditions of production more strict: yield limited to 40 hl/ha and an ageing of 12 months mandatory.
The vineyard covers 4 500 hectares and are planted on limestone, clay-silty and sandy soils with a dominant Merlot blend with Cabernet-Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Average 160 000 hl of red wines are produced each years in the appellation.
The wines are well-structured, ample and fleshy. The finish is long and fresh with an aromatic richness of red fruits.
